How do I compliment a Police Employee?

Police employees are expected to serve the public as part of their duty, however, sometimes an employee may go that extra step.  A “Thank You” is always appreciated; but what if that is just not enough to show your appreciation?  If you think a police employee merits special recognition, complete the Police Employee Recognition Form, and drop it off or mail it to the Shrewsbury Police Department, 4400 Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury, MO, 63119, and the employee will be notified of your comments.

How do I file a complaint against a Police Employee?
The men of women of the Shrewsbury Police Department strive to provide fair treatment to all we come into contact with.  The department has a reputation for being a professional and honest law enforcement agency.  Maintaining a corruption-free agency is the continued goal.

Our policy is to receive your complaint whenever and wherever you want to make it.  Any Shrewsbury Police Department Supervisor will provide you with the forms to make your complaint, or you can call the police station directly and a form can be mailed to you.  Finally, you can print the Citizen Complaint Form and either bring or mail it to the Police Department at 4400 Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury, MO, 63119.

All complaints alleging employee misconduct and/or department deficiencies will be investigated.
How is a complaint classified after completion of the investigation?

All investigations receive on of the following dispositions:

  • Unfounded
  • Not Involved
  • Exonerated or Proper Conduct
  • Insufficient Evidence or Not Sustained
  • Improper Conduct or Sustained
  • Improper Conduct not Based on the Complaint
  • Policy Failure
What discipline may be administered?

Administrative discipline used in misconduct cases may include:

  • Verbal Counseling
  • Remedial Training
  • Written Counseling
  • Written Final Warning
  • Suspension from Work
  • Reduction in Rank or Pay Grade
  • Termination
How do I File a Police Report?
The Shrewsbury Police Department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week (24/7).

If you are a victim of a crime or are involved in an auto accident that occurred within the city limits of Shrewsbury, contact the Shrewsbury Police Department dispatcher at 636-529-8210.  An officer will respond to your location after you speak with the dispatcher.

If you live outside of the city limits of Shrewsbury, you may need to respond to the Police Department for a report to be completed.  Exceptions can be made to this and a report, depending on severity, can be completed over the phone.

If the crime you wish to report occurred outside of the city limits of Shrewsbury, you will need to contact the Police Department responsible for that area.
How Do I Get a Copy of a Police Report?

Inquiries on how to obtain a copy of a completed police report should be directed to the Shrewsbury Records Clerk, Carmen Pruitt.  She can be contacted via email at cpruitt@shrewsburymo.gov, via phone at 314-647-5656, or in person at the Police Department, 4400 Shrewsbury Avenue, Shrewsbury, MO, 63119, during normal business hours (9:00 AM – 4:30 PM).  A $5 fee is due when obtaining a copy of a police report.

How Do I Get Fingerprinted?
Fingerprinting can be completed at the Police Department at any time depending on current call volume and officer availability.

This service is provided to individuals who are residents and business owners of Shrewsbury and is free of charge.  If you are not a business owner or resident of Shrewsbury, you will be directed to your local Police Department.

The following information will be needed for completion:
  • Full name
  • Any other names (aliases/maiden/nicknames)
  • Date of birth
  • Place of birth
  • Social Security Number
  • Current address
  • Valid photo identification (driver’s license or ID, passport, or military ID)

All fingerprint cards must be supplied by the business or person requesting the fingerprints be completed.  The Shrewsbury Police Department does not supply fingerprint cards for this purpose.
How Do I Get My Vehicle from the Tow Facility?
Impounded vehicle releases are available 24/7 from the Police Department.  The legal owner of the vehicle will need to come to the Police Station with the following documents:

  • Report number
  • Date and time the vehicle was towed
  • Proof of ownership (notarized bill of sale or title)
  • Current registration
  • Valid driver’s license for vehicle owner
If the vehicle is available to be released and there is not an active “hold” on the vehicle you will receive a copy of the Impounded Vehicle Release Form to take with you to the tow lot.

How Do I Retrieve Evidence or Property?
Property or evidence cannot be released to you until you have been contacted via letter by the Evidence Division, another police employee notifies you by telephone that it is available for release, or you have appeared in court and the court has ordered the property to be released to you.  At this point you should contact an Evidence Custodian at 314-647-5656, extension 138, to make an appointment to pick up your property.

The following items will be needed when requesting your property:
  • Report number
  • The letter sent to you by the Shrewsbury Evidence Division
  • A document from the court authorizing the release of your property
  • Photo identification
  • Proof of ownership for the property (if required)

Your court date is listed on the copy of your citation or summons that was issued to you on the date of occurrence.  If you no longer have the citation or summons or have further questions, please call the Court Clerk at 314-647-8634 or visit the Municipal Court page for further information.
